Union Canal Days
23rd Annual Union Canal Days, May 19 – 20, 2012
For more than twenty years, on the third weekend in May, the Friends of the Union Canal Tunnel Park, under the auspices of the Lebanon County Historical Society, have sponsored Union Canal Days at the Union Canal Tunnel Park. There is no admission charge for the festival and only a $1.00 per vehicle parking fee.
There will be great entertainment, delicious foods, crafts and antiques for sale, interpretive boat rides on the canal, historic material for purchase, pony rides and a petting zoo, children’s train rides, and much more. Take a chance on the “sheep to shawl” demonstration and win the shawl which will be made during the fair. Reserve dinner tickets for the Saturday chicken barbecue dinner to be held in the Haak Pavilion. Just $7.50 gets you a half of a chicken, cole slaw, potato chips, a drink, and dessert. (Call 717-272-6949 to make your dinner reservations ahead of time.) Be sure to stop at the Friends of the UCTP booth and place a bid on an item on the silent auction table or select a Union Canal Tunnel Park tee or sweat shirt. Pick up your summer hanging baskets, the vegetable plants for your garden, or the annuals to add color to your yard. Or just come and view our National Historic Landmark, the Union Canal Tunnel, the oldest transportation tunnel in the United States.
Besides enjoying all the activities, you will be supporting this very historic site with a waterway which helped open a new nation to development. All profits realized will be used for the maintenance and development of the park, and the interpretation of the history of the Union Canal.
